Dimethicone is silicon, a type of pure sand and is inert meaning it does not react with anything, this should not cause irritation as it is pure. It is used as an emollient and removes tackiness. The sunscreen in the day lotion is microsized. The anti oxidants in the formula balance any negative effect of the sunscreen; in addition the free radicals you get from the sun are more dangerous than the small amount of sunscreen in the formula.
